"Duet" 4' x 24' Delta Dental Headquarters, Stevens' Point WI My specialty is large-scale, site specific fiberworks. Sometimes an agent handles these large commissioned projects, sometimes I work directly with the client. I take into consideration the space parameters, colors and materials used in the site, budget and timeline. Most importantly, I am interested in what the space is used for, and in the people who occupy or move through the space. "Wings" and "Dancers" are in a medical facility in Sioux Falls, SD. Much of the clientele is Native American. I wanted to honor Sioux design tradition without trying to replicate it. "Mending" is in a cancer-treatment waiting area. The interlaced design suggests that our bodies heal themselves. "Ribbon Candy" is installed at the Shriner Children's Hospital. I wanted to create something playful in primary colors that might delight a sick child. "Social Fabrics" is in medical building that houses seven social agencies, and serves a diverse population. I used ethnically-inspired printed fabrics to create a seven-strand braid that suggests how the seven agencies cooperate in working together. I have work in facilities that promote healing and growth, including schools and universities, medical facilities, and even prisons. These pieces are part of the movie "Large Scale Works" |
